Safe

Safe is a general term for a secure lockable box used for securing valuables and objects against theft or fire damage. The first patent for a burglar resistant safe was by Charles and Jeremiah Chubb in 1835. Modern Safes come in all sizes and configurations and are usually made of steel and other components for fireproofing. Things to look for when buying a safe are: Burglar resistance, Fire resistance, Water resistance, Type of lock, Location of the safe (free standing safe, wall safe, vault door).

Sine the late 1800's safes are manufactured similarly to how they are today. They have concrete fire insulation, step doors that seal on four levels and spring-loaded relocking devices inside the door. Safes are becoming a necessary home appliance. With the threat of burglary and fire many believe you can't afford not to own a safe. Many contractors buy safes and install them in home to increase the property value. For a low price you can even install a safe room in a home increasing the residential value of a home as much as $50,000. A safe door only costs about $2,000. Many believe it's the best way to increase property value. Most homeowners will place a safe out of sight. Usually in the closet, under carpet or behind cabinetry. This way your safe will not be easily seen by visitors such as contractors, maids or handy men. This will reduce the likelihood of an attack.

To learn more about the purchase of a safe, contact your safe manufacturer fore discount safes in your area. Remember, a safe is a lifetime investment and they don't depreciate much. If you bought a safe in 1960 for $200, you could sell it used today for $300. That's an increase of 50%. Buying a safe is a wise and practical decision.
